Electric Sports Cars - No more 10 mpg
By Felix Hung of Exit Beach Cities Realty
No more bad mileage for sports cars! Many major automakers including Porsche and Audi are following after Tesla to produce electric sports cars. Porsche's newly introduced 918 hybrid concept car will makes its debut tomorrow at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. It's powered by a 500hp engine plus two electric motors giving it an additional 218hp and 78 mpg. Audi made a huge splash at the Frankfurt Auto show this year with the R8 e-tron. This is an electric sports car that will be larger than the TT and smaller than the RS8. This format is not a hybrid, but a true electric car similar to the Tesla line. It will run on a lithim ion battery and one charge will take the vehicle 154 miles before having to recharge. The R8 e-tron or a similar electric sports car should arrive in the states in 2 or 3 years. Tesla's line right now consists of just the roadster (236 mile range, 0-60 in 3.9 secs). It also is adding a new model to the family. In 2011, Tesla is releasing the model S, with a range of 300 miles per charge, a quick charge capability allowing the vehicle to be recharged in 45 minutes, seats upto 7 people, and is a sedan that can go 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Amazing enough, this car will start at $49,900 and reservations for delivery are being taken now. The sports car world will get that much more interesting with these more eco-friendly supercars. |

Hope they price it well to entice people to use clean energy!
Great intel Felix it’s all great in concept, but the biggest problem with electric sports cars are the lithium ion batteries because after about 40 to 60 charges the batteries start to lose the charge far too quickly, it’s the same with laptops and my £4,450.00 lithium ion powered electric mountain bike, im on my 3rd battery. The future is Hydrogen powered sports cars
